I used to consider a leader to be someone who is “high up” in an organization and holds a title of responsibility. There’s lots of debate and many books on “what is leadership” and “what makes a great leader” and I know you have your own ideas on the topic.
Personally, I think a leader is someone who can create a machine beneath them that frees up their time to think, generate future vision and safely steer the ship in that direction. A leader is dispensable in the short term because they’ve built a machine that works without them. But they are missed in the long term for their vision and forethought.
Beyond work, all of us are leaders of organizational microcosms that require leadership skills such as your family, team sport, not-for-profit committees or simply organizing group travel with friends. On a daily basis we’re called upon to exhibit leadership skills in every interaction and situation we encounter.
You are the leader of yourself too.
To free your mind for the important things you need to achieve in your life …
develop healthy habits, build emotional stability and exercise good character traits.
Pay attention to how you’re building your inner self … it powers your future.
As Aristotle said ...
"We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act, but a habit."
How do and will you lead yourself?
Have a wonderfully ViVaCious week.
